The American Acoustic tour brings together the leading lights of contemporary Americana music for an evening of incomparable musicianship and vocal harmonizing. I’m with Her features recent Grammy winner Sarah Jarosz, Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, and Aoife O’Donovan of Crooked Still. Each is an acclaimed artist in her own right, and as a trio they are sublime. The New York Times calls them “an alliance of Americana virtuosos.”
The same may be said for the Punch Brothers, who music producer T-Bone Burnett called “one of the most incredible bands this country has ever produced.” The band is led by mandolinist extraordinaire Chris Thile, who just completed his first season as host of A Prairie Home Companion. Alex Wilkinson writes in The New Yorker, “Each of the other musicians—Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo), and Gabe Witcher (fiddle)—plays with grace, thoughtfulness, and force to a degree that is not duplicated by any band I am aware of.”
Punch Brothers’ latest album for Nonesuch, The Phosphorescent Blues, is their warmest, most emotive and elegantly melodic work to date.
